It's Not Just Toast, It's Torrada!
How, if you are acquainted with this Portuguese delight, do you approach your Torrada?Me? I eat the sides and leave the 'middle fingers' till last, to enjoy in all their soft, moist, buttery goodness.
Toast - a great and comforting staple in the UK - has been re-born for me in Portugal.
It's the combination of great bread (pão de forma), lashings of salty butter and a real respect for the simple things that make this such a treat.
Served with a Meia de Leite (milky coffee, literally 'half of milk'), this is my favourite breakfast - a blessing on every level including wallet, a chance to see what's occurring in town, and soothed morning soul.

I'm eating the last butter-soaked piece as I compose this final sentence. The texture, the taste, the tremendous contentment - you can give me the middle-finger anytime!
